As you already know, the study of phonics follows the alphabetic principle and the idea that each letter represents the different sounds of speech. Phonics worksheets can help children learn phonics and in turn the English language. Children first learn the sound a letter makes, for example a, like hat and bat. They then learn that that letter is called A. After learning the sound of the first letter they will combine two letters, for example they will learn b as in bat and ball and then they will learn bl to say blue and so on.
Math is a subject that many kids have trouble with as they progress through school. It is essential that math basic skills be mastered early on, as these skills build the foundation for understanding harder concepts introduced in higher grades. First grade math contains quite a few important skills, and using online games may be able to give students the help they need in order to become fluent in working with numbers. In kindergarten, kids learn simple math skills like number recognition and counting. They are able to begin to recognize that higher numbers are bigger numbers and can understand concepts like counting by twos and tens. Using online games with these children when they reach first grade can help them transition between beginning math skills and more complex numerical concepts. Providing a wide variety of different games in an entertaining online environment gets kids excited about tackling new ideas and puts math in a positive context. Once the foundation has been laid for basic comprehension and computational skills, children can use these games to progress even further.
By the age of three, your child is ready to move onto mathematics worksheets. This does not mean that you should stop playing counting and number games with your child; it just adds another tool to your toolbox. Worksheets help to bring some structure into a child has education using a systematic teaching method, particularly important with math, which follows a natural progression. Learning about numbers includes recognizing written numbers as well as the quantity those numbers represent. Mathematics worksheets should provide a variety of fun activities that teach your child both numbers and quantity. Look for a variety of different ways to present the same concepts. This aids understanding and prevents boredom. Color-by-Numbers pictures are a fun way to learn about numbers and colors too.
This sounds like an awful lot, does not it! A good set of preschool worksheets should cover all of this, and more. In the preschool years, repetition is the key to learning, but you should look for worksheets that teach the same skills in a variety of ways. This not only prevents boredom setting in, but also reinforces the concepts by encouraging understanding as well. The importance of reading to your child cannot be emphasised enough, and you should encourage them to read as much as possible too.
A Sound Treasure Hunt will have your child gathering items around the house all starting with the same letter - and of course there has to be some treasure at the end of the game, so be prepared! I spy with my little eye is another great game if you use sounds instead of the names of letters, and it can be played anywhere. You do not need worksheets for this one either, but you may want to join the local library rather than spend a fortune on books that your child outgrows as quickly as they outgrow their clothes! The more you read to your child, with your child and in front of your child, the quicker they will learn to read, and learn how to enjoy it too.
Toddler learning crafts are a fun and "crafty" way you can teach them new things. Kids crafts can cover basic learning like colors, shapes, the five senses and more. You can also have fun learning about animals, flowers and trees, the 4 seasons and more. The ideas are endless when it comes to learning and having fun. Many items your kids make can even be used for additional toddler activities that further enhance their minds and the knowledge they absorb. Take for instance a simple craft idea like making binoculars.
Another way to stimulate a child is to have the right tool or preschool worksheets in developing their mental ability. We should not underestimate their small brain by thinking that it is not time for them to learn such things. Ages 3-6 are just perfect years for them to gain knowledge and education. Basic things such as shapes, colors, countings, letters and sounds are easily recognize even by toddlers. Not only that their memories are sharpened but they can easily imitate and recognize sounds that they hear. As they grow older, we can use a advance preschool worksheets that we know are fitting for their age.
