You can find worksheets for a wide range of courses--almost any course you want to teach your children. These include spelling, writing, English, history, math, music, geography, and others. They are also available for nearly all grade levels. There are printable middle school, high school, elementary school, and even pre-school worksheets. There are other sources for worksheets also. You can find many public schools and private schools which will provide free worksheets for you if you buy textbooks from the school. Or you can usually find textbooks and workbooks at the public library, where you can also copy any worksheets that you want to use.
Care should be taken to give children worksheets that they are capable of doing. This involves understanding and monitoring the child continually, since the level of attainment of different children would often be quite different. The worksheet should challenge the child but not overwhelm her. If the worksheet is too easy or too repetitive, it may bore the child and she would not be happy. If the activity is too difficult it would frustrate her and she would not like to take up more sheets.
The learning ideas do not stop with just this simple idea. Try making many different animal crafts and talk about each one. They can learn about where animals come from, what color they are and what shape they look like. They can even make masks of their favorite animal and pretend to be a lion or elephant or even a cute kitten. Plan a trip to the zoo as an additional activity and have them identify the different animals they know and recognize. Perhaps some flowers for a crafty idea for spring or summer. Or a snowman or sled for winter. You can even have them make a wreath with fall leafs or a scarecrow. All these ideas are a fun way for toddlers to understand the different seasons and the colors with each season. Calendars always make a fun craft at the beginning of each year. Your kids can mark important days, like their birthday, as well as the first day of each season. Have them decorate it with pictures and colors of each season. Do not forget to have them mark the holidays as well and plan for some holiday crafting time with your kids.
Before creating the worksheet for children, it is important to understand why the worksheet is being made. Is there a message to be conveyed? Can students record information that can be understood later? Is it being created to just teach a basic concept to little children? A well designed worksheet will make its objective clear. The different aspects that should influence the design of the worksheet are the age, ability and motivation of the students. A young child may not be able to write or read more than a few words. Worksheets should be created keeping these factors in mind. When you buy worksheets for your children, look for how the concept is explained. Is it pictorial or is it just a collection of words? A pictorial worksheet will hold the attention of a child more than just a combination of words.
There are many good workbooks available for kindergarten children. However with a regular workbook, a child can do each activity or worksheet only once. A good option is to use printable kindergarten worksheets. These are basically digital versions (like e-books) of worksheets that can be bought and downloaded to your computer from the internet or from CDs and then printed out. The advantage is that you can print out whichever sheet you wish. If you need to reinforce a certain concept more you can usually print out that sheet again. Of course you will therefore need to have a computer and a printer.
This sounds like an awful lot, does not it! A good set of preschool worksheets should cover all of this, and more. In the preschool years, repetition is the key to learning, but you should look for worksheets that teach the same skills in a variety of ways. This not only prevents boredom setting in, but also reinforces the concepts by encouraging understanding as well. The importance of reading to your child cannot be emphasised enough, and you should encourage them to read as much as possible too.
The single most important thing to remember if you have a toddler preschool setting is that Play is never frivolous. It is THE most effective way a toddler learns; it is essential. The best part is that PLAY can be enhanced. This is where you, the preschool teacher, provide the opportunities to turn play into the best learning environment possible. The term, toddler, covers a wide age range and ability range. I define toddler as between 18 and 30 months of age.
